The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued a notice on September 13, 2019, that starting on October 12, 2019 the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Life Tables for 2016 will be utilized when calculating life expectancy in a Workers’ Compensation Medicare Set Aside (WCMSA). The notice reads as follows:

Beginning October 12, 2019, CMS will convert to the CDC’s “Table 1: Life Table for the total population: United States, 2016” for the Workers’ Compensation Medicare Set Aside life expectancy calculations. A link to the CDC’s 2016 Life Tables may be found in the Related Links section at the bottom of the Workers’ Compensation Medicare Set Aside Arrangements What’s New page on

A link to the updated table can be found here. A comparison between the 2015 and 2016 tables appears to be negligible with respect to life expectancies.
