The Coronavirus Pandemic in Workers Compensation: What are the Medical Providers Thinking?

The first case of COVID-19 was reported in the United States in January 2020. It was only a matter of time before exposed workers made workers’ compensation claims. A successful claim requires medical causation evidence. This program explores the fundamentals of the COVID-19 pandemic from the perspective of its impact on the workplace.

In this webinar, two medical experts and former regulator and Senior Managing Director of Ametros, Paul Sighinolfi Esq., will delve into helping us understand the world that now confronts us. Carlyle Voss MD is a psychiatrist with over 30 years of forensic psychiatric experience. He is a physician who regularly consults on Workers’ Compensation cases for both claimants and employers. Joining him is Kenji Saito MD, JD. Dr. Saito is a physician lawyer who is a fellow of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine where he is board certified. Dr. Saito’s practice is one where he treats patients and regularly consults on workers’ compensation claims.

This webinar will discuss topics and questions, including:

  • What should an employer’s concern be for his employees’ health and safety based on what we know about this virus?
  • How does an employer maintain a healthy work environment and support healthy business operations? - What is the psychiatric community thinking about this pandemic?
  • Could a claim be filed for an emotional injury where there is no physical harm caused by the exposure, only the harm associated with the fear of potential life-threatening harm?
  • What is the Occupational Medicine community thinking about these claims?
  • How is the medical community adjusting to this no-contact environment we now all share? Is telemedicine the answer and is it our future?
